Independence Day is considered as one of the most important events in the Philippine History because it commemorates the country’s independence from Spanish domination on June 12, 1898.

Over hundreds of years ago, the Philippines declared independence from the 300 years of Spanish  rule. On August 4, 1964, former President Diosdado Macapagal signed Republic Act No. 4166, which established the annual June 12 commemoration of Philippine Independence Day. This Act made the holiday legitimate, which commemorates General Emilio Aguinaldo’s and Filipino revolutionary forces’ declaration of independence from Spanish domination. In 1898, the Philippines’ flag was flown as well as national song was played for the first time.

As mentioned above, Independence Day is a national holiday in the Philippines, thus, government offices are closed, people take the day off, and schools are completely closed. Additionally, many business establishments are closed except shopping centers. Many Filipinos spend their days in parks and to go shopping. Focusing on transportation, Buses, passenger jeeps, and tricycles are still running, however, their itineraries may be restricted due to the closure of streets to be used for parades. Of course, the celebration would be incomplete without various activities to engage. Individuals from all walks of life, including government officials, employees, and students, march in nationwide parades. The most significant event, however, is the police and military parade in Manila, which is led by the country’s current president and includes a speech and a 21-gun salute. When speaking of abroad, there are also many Filipino communities in other nations who never miss to join the celebration.

We, Filipinos, deserve to be freed from anything or anyone. However, as it is a significant part of our nation’s history and own identity, let us use this celebration to continuously appreciate the notable contributions and every single important detail from the past. In that way we can use the meaningful things that are part of our history to improve our lives in the present which is the way to have a prosperous future and make our beloved country well-known to everybody

             "Always love your mother because you will never get another". In this world full of tears and smiles, if there's someone who's right beside us and just one call away, it is always our dear mothers who never get tired of giving their everything. With all their sacrifices, support, efforts and dedication towards our betterment, it is essential to recognize this goodness especially on Mother's Day. Even simple ideas and presents can certainly make them happy and feel loved.

Mothers are the happiest when we are in right direction and when achieve something. And when we are going through the darkness, they serve us the light and hope for tomorrow. They never get to miss a single chance to spread their wings and loving care to make us feel the warmth. How fortunate and blessed are we indeed, for we're with them in every storm and every rainbow in life.

Indeed, a mother's love is an epitome of selfless and unconditional love. No matter what the situation, they are beside us as ready as always to guide and be a shoulder to lean on. They are our eyes when we're blinded by wrong thoughts or beliefs, they are our ears when we are deaf because of the nuisance coming from the surroundings, they are our voice when we are too down to speak even a single word, and they are our feet when we're unable to rise from the fall. Thus, let us always make this once in a year opportunity to reciprocate their sacrifices and give them something they can treasure forever.

These are some ideas to make the Mother's Day Celebration a memorable one: prepare a simple get-together with genuine feelings, give her touching messages and letters, have deep conversation about one of kind moments, give her priceless presents, decorate her room, cook your family's favorite, sing her a song or dance to make her happy, and even a short hug and kiss will do.

Mothers deserve every precious thing in life and honorable moments to cherish. Just a day in a year can't repay their goodness but let us use the Mother's Day celebration to make them feel loved and appreciated as well. If there's one thing that is undoubtful and will remain forever in this life full of ups and downs, it is the love of a mother to her children and her family. Let us show them what they deserve and value every moment with our mothers whom our everything.

It is the yarn that Abel Iloco weavers use. The costumes of the dancers are usually made of Abel Iloco. Indeed, this festival serves not only to showcase Bigueno's talents and for entertainment, it is also a depiction of Vigan City's rich culture and a way to promote traditional weaving craft.

Binatbatan Festival is usually composed of dancers from elementary, high school and college. Even the young ones are extremely eager to show their keen interest in this festival. Each of the selected students spend more than a month to practice their dance, but you can never see them tired or exasperated. Only that can show beyond doubt how much hard work and willingness they do invest for successful conduction of Binatbatan Festival.

With the occurence of coranavirus pandemic, festivals have been prohibited for more than a year. Fortunately, this 2022, we're almost near to getting back to our normal lives. Festivals and different activities are already on the go, but of course, with the presence of minimum health protocols. During the Binatbatan Festival, anyone can observe how people miss such kind of activities. In that moment, even though the smiles are hidden behind the mask, we can see how their eyes shines and the happiness that has long been deprived since the pandemic started.

An epitome of selfless love

One of the purest love and great sacrifices, indeed, she has.

    She is my mother's sister who chose to take care of us and help her siblings so that we, her nieces and nephews, could grow up well and be god-fearing people. At a very young age, my eyes were already opened in reality, and I was able to see all she's done for us which I truly treasure and forever be grateful for.

            With the occurrence of coronavirus pandemic, they are one of those in frontline who render primary health care services in the community and help limit the spread of the virus as well as take care of the infected ones with mild symptoms. 

In this modern world where technology reigns in the lives of the majority, considering all the lessons and tasks given in this 3^rd which I was fortunate enough to encounter and study in depth, I was able to focus on our town’s culture, traditions, and all the things much beyond I must know. We often perceived these significant things in our lives as less valued and everything seems to be taken for granted. Thankfully, with the help of my new learnings in this quarter, I was able to perform my roles in a very well manner as a student and as a Bigueno.

If we were to observe our surroundings, there are things that might hook our interests, but we frequently view things as monotonous as what they seem. The community-based research really helped me to broaden my knowledge and discover a lot of new things that actually have great influence on my daily living and dig deeper or look beyond what we see or what we believe on physical basis. I had a very great time looking on our town’s history, people’s business/livelihood, food and delicacies, our town’s art and crafts, etc. and especially those that had vital contributions for the development of Vigan City and improvement of Biguenos’ lives.

The end of the school year is arriving, time flies really fast and, in a bit, I’ll already be saying goodbye to junior high school. However, I have gained more than enough knowledge and discovered advantageous skills which are beneficial for me in the next phase of my journey as student. This coming last quarter, I expect that I will be able to accomplish/achieve a much greater technology-based skills and live with extraordinary experiences.

When I go to senior high school, catching up to the lessons inclined with the technology will be much easier for me because I firmly believe that throughout out my junior high school journey especially in my 4^th year, the subject ICT has been very useful for me in my studies as well as my daily living.

As we recover from coronavirus pandemic’s drastic effects and transmission of the virus has slowed down, as well as the number of people being infected has dropped, we can ensure a safer environment and a more-secured future for all the people and the next generations if we protect the children and teenagers now. And it is through the help of vaccinations.

Benefits of children and teens being fully vaccinated include protection against COVID-19, lower chance of getting seriously sick, safety in going to different place as well as doing various kind of activities in school. It is an inflammatory reaction in the body about four weeks after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus (hopkinsmedicine.org). According to CDC, since the pandemic began, more than 2,300 cases of MIS-C have been reported in children ages 5 through 11 years. Children with underlying medical conditions are more at risk for severe illness from COVID-19 compared with children without underlying medical conditions. This implies that without any concrete protection, the health of children is at a high change of being seriously damaged or at risk. Thus, it is highly recommended that children undergo vaccinations, as soon as possible, for them to be safe and protected.

COVID-19 vaccine dosage depends by the age of the child/teenager on the day of vaccination. According to CDC, adolescents ages 12 years and older receive the same dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine as adults. Children ages 5 through 11 years receive an age-appropriate dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 through 11 years has the same active ingredients as the vaccine given to adults and adolescents. However, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for adults and adolescents cannot be used for children ages 5 through 11 years.

Probable side effects of children and teens getting a vaccine include headache, muscle pain, tiredness, lack of interest over things, fever, redness and swelling. The stated side effects may be more prevalent in doing stuffs and various kinds of activities, thus it is recommended that they actually take a good rest.

        In the celebration of "Araw ng Kagitingan", we commemorate the heroism of Filipinos and American Soldiers during occupation of the Japanese in the Philippines during World War II. How awe-inspiring they are indeed that despite their defeat, the captured soldiers remained strong and it is just one thing that makes them deserve of the word “heroes” and to be honored for also their help in bringing democracy and freedom in the Philippines.

The week-long observance is an occasion to honor not only the Filipino war veterans who died or served the country but also to remember those who rendered honorable military service in defending the country in times of war or peace. This is to gratefully acknowledge their contributions in preserving our sovereignty and defending our national security (GOVPH).

In the battle of Bataan, MacArthur’s force consisted of tens of thousands of ill-trained and ill-equipped Filipino reservists and some 22,000 American troops who were, in effect, an amalgam of “spit-and-polish” garrison soldiers with no combat experience, artillerymen, a small group of plane less pilots and ground crews, and sailors whose ships happened to be in port when Japanese forces bombed Manila and its naval yards (britannica.com). This implies that they were already disadvantaged at first but the courage and sacrifices they offered for the country are indeed the ones that Filipinos must be proud of.

Despite their lack of supplies, American and Filipino forces managed to fight the Japanese for three months (britannica.com). It is very amazing how Filipinos despite lacking in enough equipment and high-tech supplies are still able to fight and defend our country up to the point that they even risked their lives.

It was indeed very saddening, but my admiration and salutations are more dominant for those 76000 prisoners in Bataan Death March who were forced to march in the Philippines for 66 miles (106 km) which took place in April 1942, during the early stages of World War II.

The bravery of Filipinos is indeed one a kind and the courage we have to stand still in every drastic situation we are in can be considered as the real resilience which a country truly needs. It is indeed a must to continuously observed patriotism and love for the country in all forms as well as the courage and bravery which our heroes offered for the country. And the fighting spirit we carry on our daily living will hopefully be soon the key on getting all the things we deserve.
