What is being flexible and woody really like?

As a student I always wonder how the world would look like if there’s equality, no endless challenges, and no things that divide us all. However, at the end of the day, I take into consideration how we all take a step to the rocky road of success, where there will always be problems to solve, challenges to surpass, and trials to triumph over. That’s why I stand tall like a bamboo tree: Bold enough to face, endure, and survive any tragic episode that life may bring.

Nowadays, we often encounter a lot of drastic happenings in the world which can even turn our lives around in just a snap. As such is the occurrence of this pandemic wherein many individuals are now living behind the bars of extreme fear, hunger and poverty. While some already surrendered and gave up, we must always have the courage to rise and find ways to start a new beginning.

I am just a simple girl living a simple life, but I consider myself different from others. “Unique” is what they call it, but I do believe it’s something special. Just how the resilience of a bamboo tree works and its ability to bend without breaking, I often lack confidence but always ended up giving the best out of me in order to grow and develop.

In such a young age, I’ve lost count on how many challenges did I already faced along the way. However, I’m still here strong enough to face any uncertainty. Even though things complicate me, and the world put me at harshest conditions, I still manage to resume in my normal life. I can get to enjoy my hobbies which are reading books and playing ukulele. I also play beatbox, lyre and guitar. In line with sports, I play basketball as tough as my brother, and chess as skilled as my Tito. But my favorite ever since is to know the perfect timing to give in and how to sway in the breeze in order to fully weather the storm and survive.

Although, there are still times when I can’t handle myself, and seem to carry the burden of the world. I result to drastic actions and often commit wrong decisions which lead me to regret and remorse. There’s one time that I can’t help myself but to feel the worst and like problems seem unending.

I remember when we joined the RSPC. I have a very keen interest in writing, that’s why I became very disappointed when I can’t even stand a chance to take a step. I was nearly diagnosed for a heart disease because I was showing the same symptoms as my brother’s before. My world collapsed that time and I became hopeless, not until I realized what I sacrificed and worked hard for. Literally and figuratively, I stand up strong in order to continue and achieve my dreams in the field of journalism. As the saying goes, God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.

As a matter of fact, I always wanted to be a journalist, but being a successful teacher is what I truly want to become in the near future. Molding talents, shaping one’s interest, and helping people in discovering their hidden assets and strengths are my passions. Just imagining myself being a helping hand all the way to student’s success is also a success for me. Apart from these, I want to teach children who can barely afford to go to school, and help all learners understand one of the essences of life which is to always rise and start a new beginning after falling.

A bamboo is indeed flexible and woody. Yes, I see myself as a bamboo tree, the one that remains strong and a fighter of storms.
